Well, 39 plus years later we're still married, I still buy bamboo, still okay with my wife, my mother-in-law still doesn't get it but that's okay. My future bride didn't mind at all, but my mother-in-law went nuts that I "wasted" that money. It was the last one hundred dollars that I had to my name at the time as I was getting married and just paid for our honeymoon. This was the time Lee Wulff graced the Orvis catalog pushing small, light tackle for big fish. My first cane rod was a 6' Superfine that I purchased back in late 1969, early 1970, directly from Orvis - 2 tips - for $99. I noticed another thread this AM about your database where I believe Dragless mentions a Superfine. I couldn't find it in your database and was curious when it might have been built. The rod in question I also purchased used from Carmine it's a 7 1/2', 3 7/8 oz 2 piece Battenkill that says the line is a HDC(6). This off season I'll probably send it back to Orvis for some fine tuning. I take great pride in fishing this old cane rod, as it's almost - not quite - as old as me. My friend wrote Orvis directly and the information he provided about this rod, is the same that exists in your database. It's serial # 19375 built in 1956, and 8 foot two piece I fish with a 6 weight. The first I bought from a very good friend who bought it off of eBay. I have two Orvis Battenkills that I purchased used. Via this website yesterday, your database seemed frozen - so I opened it via a Google but noticed it was last updated in 2008 as opposed to a 2009 date I saw via Clarke's.
